Cold & Flu Remedies
Cold and flu season is upon us, and there are several great ways we can avoid getting sick this year. If we do start to feel something coming on, we want to knock it out quickly! First, let's understand why we get sicker in the winter?
Sunshine is a powerful tool for immune system health. Vitamin D is important, and we should get enough sun to last us through the winter, but few of us do that anymore. Heat also kills infections. As fall approaches and the weather becomes cold, wet, and damp, this increases microbial activity in the body such as mold, fungus, yeast, and other bacteria. Here comes the sinus congestion, colds, bronchitis, and the like. Here are the top 5 ways to help you through the winter.
1. Stay active
Exercise, move the blood, increase heat in the body. A stagnant body is one prone to sickness. Your exercise may stay indoors but don't be afraid to bundle up, brave the elements, and do some outdoor walking or hiking. It is invigorating!
2. Avoid the sugar and junk foods
Ah yes, the holidays, we get it. But be smart. The weather is colder, your immune system is weaker, you are less active, and then throw holiday sweets filled with sugar on top of it! This is a recipe for disaster. Stick to lean meats, fruits, veggies, greens, nuts, and seeds. Keep out the junk through the winter. It is MORE important during this season.
3. Take some Vitamin D
Why not? We've all heard how important it is and it is quite affordable. It's good fire insurance. We like the brands Harmonic Innerprizes High Potency Vitamin D3 and Nordic Naturals Vitamin D3 Gummies.
4. Try bone broth
Yes, chicken soup for the soul. It really does help. We encourage sticking to chicken broth because beef and pork can be way too heavy. Try the new Bone Broth Protein Powders by Ancient Nutrition. They taste amazing, and you will love the convenience of getting the healthy protein and nutrients from broth in a simple powdered form. They come in 8 flavors including turmeric, chocolate, and coffee. We have been amazed at how well they taste!
5. Keep your immune system strong
To build your immune system through the winter use Colostrum by Immune Tree (for kids also), Magnificent Mushrooms by Cedar Bear, and a good probiotic.
If you want to go after colds, flus, bacteria, viruses, etc. try this strategy. Cycle various items that work to prevent and/or remove infections from the body. For example, use one product every day for a week and then switch to a different one.
