The God of Miracles is also the God of Design, Purpose, and Natural Created Order
Have you ever fallen and twisted an ankle or broken a bone? What if you touch a hot stove? What would happen if you jump off a cliff (no parachute that is)? These examples might seem simple, but it's called cause and effect. We have a God who designed our world to function a certain way and we are a part of His design. Would it be silly for me to decide to jump off a cliff, but pray that God would save me? Now let's take it a step further.
Do you have any plants in your home? Or maybe a small garden? Do you have a dog, cat or even something fun like a lizard or turtle? Let's try an experiment. For the next month, put Coca-Cola (maybe diet coke would be healthier for the plant?) on the plant instead of water. Instead of pet food (which isn't good for most of our pets anyway), let's try feeding them Doritos, soda pop, ice cream and pop tarts. What might happen? Surely the plant would die. The dog would probably love you and the lizard would just look at you funny.
We wouldn't do this to our pets because we know "it isn't good for them." Don't feed your pets "people food" right? Why not? Because it isn't food! Why do our domesticated pets gets the same diseases we do? Disease does not plague wild animals who live off God's provision. And it wouldn't happen to us if we chose to live off God's provision.
We must understand the importance of Genesis 2:7. "and the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground."
If you read the Genesis story, we clearly see God fashioned plants, animals AND humans out of the ground. Do we think our superior thought process and "modern" inventions and way of living supercedes God's design? In fact, Solomon said in the book of Ecclesiastes this fascinating statement:
"For what happens to the sons of men also happens to animals; one thing befalls them: as one dies, so dies the other. Surely, they all have one breath; man has no advantage over animals, for all is vanity. All go to one place: all are from the dust, and all return to dust." -Ecclesiastes 3:19-20
Wow! Now man has a spirit that can connect to God, through Jesus. And yes, that makes us different than animals of course, but no time for that discussion today. But please see this point clearly. We are subject to the natural laws of God's design. If we put soda, candy, McDonald's, pizza, white flour, white sugar and weird chemicals in our body, how can we expect it to work? Do we really think we can go on living this way, thinking our body will not break down eventually?
Do you put tomato juice in your car and expect it to work? No, because the car had a designer that designed it to function a certain way. And YOU have a designer and His name is Holy. He cares about you and loves you dearly, and He cares about purity, holiness and design. The cause and effect of God’s created order has purpose. Let’s align with it and find out how life giving our God is!
ACTION STEP: Pray and think about how God designed the earth to function, with us in mind. How did God design us to drink, to eat and to play? How is that different from our world today? Ask Him what is holding you back from connecting with His design and created order. We can all take one step closer to Him and embrace the healing things He has made.
