DIY Bentonite Clay Mask Facial:

Bentonite Clay Masks draws out skin’s impurities and excess oils, leaving your face and body refreshed and purified.

How to Make Your Own Clay Mask:

  • Combine clay powder to water at a ratio of 1 part clay to 3 parts water in a glass, ceramic, or food grade plastic container with a non-metal, air-tight lid. For example: ½ cup (4 oz.) of clay powder to 12 ounces of water.

  • Cover and shake vigorously for about a minute or until all lumps are gone. Larger batches may also be prepared using an electric mixer or blender; however, take care to immediately wash any clay residue off of the beaters.

  • Allow the mixture to stand for 15 minutes with lid slightly loosened to vent and allow for expansion.

  • Use your hands or a clean brush to apply a thin layer to face and neck and allow to dry 15-20 minutes.

  • Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

  • For best results, follow-up with a natural face cream.

  • Store in a cool place away from direct sunlight.

  • Bentonite clay for topical application may be purchased pre-mixed or made from Detox Clay Powder.

DIY Skin Brushing

Skin brushing is a wonderful, revitalizing health and beauty aid. Removing the top layer of dead skin and stimulating the circulation of blood feeding the skin are essential for maintaining youthful, glowing, and supple skin. Skin Brushing has been used throughout the world for centuries, and is making its way back into popularity. Dry skin brushing is one of the best ways to cleanse the skin without removing the protective mantle of acid and oils. It gently and effectively removes the top layer of dead skin cells with its build-up of dirt and acid, and deeply cleanses the pores. Skin brushing promotes lymphatic and blood cleansing and helps with cellulite treatment. We recommend using the The Yerba Prima Tampico Skin Brush, but any brush made from natural materials will work.

How to Skin Brush

  • The best time to skin brush is right before your shower or bath. Health experts recommend brushing when the skin is dry for best results. If you have poison ivy, skin rashes, infections or inflammatory problems such as phlebitis, do not brush that part of the skin.

  • Begin with very gentle strokes and adapt the intensity of the brushing to match the sensitivity of your skin.

  • The basic principle is to brush from the outermost points of the body (hands and feet) towards the center. Start by brushing your feet and then up your legs with smooth gentle strokes. Brush your hands and up your arms. Brush across your upper back and down the front and back of the torso. Cover the entire surface of the skin except for the more tender skin of the face and breasts.

  • A slight flush due to increased blood circulation is normal, and shows that your skin brushing is working. Be careful not to brush so hard that your skin is irritated or turns bright red.

  • The total process takes only 2-3 minutes. When you are finished, step into your bath or shower. After dry skin brushing, you will feel the invigorating, tingling energy of increased circulation. That’s one more reason why so many people love dry skin brushing every day.

  • After your bath or shower, dry off and apply Alaffia Coconut Body Lotion to the skin.
